What is sustaining maintenance from OpenText?

Once the current maintenance period ends, the version of ApplicationXtender enters Sustaining Maintenance. Sustaining Support is equivalent to an Extended Support agreement. It requires an additional purchase beyond the existing Software Maintenance and Support fees.

From OpenText’s Prime Protect Software Maintenance Handbook:

“Sustaining Maintenance” refers to the stage of the product lifecycle following the expiration of Current Maintenance. During this phase of the product support lifecycle, the following Support Services are available*

  • Access to the Customer Service Portal (Documentation, technical articles, discussion forums, webinars and events)

  • The terms and length of phases of the product support lifecycle may vary depending on the product and Release. Please refer to the Customer Service Portal product page for specific lifecycle terms

Is OpenText ApplicationXtender still supported?

Yes. ApplicationXtender was renamed AppEnhancer beginning with version 22.2. OpenText continues to actively develop and support the AppEnhancer product line.

What is the latest version of OpenText AppEnhancer?

The latest release is AppEnhancer 26.2.1, released on May 28, 2026. Organizations should confirm their current version and support status before planning an upgrade.

Is ApplicationXtender the same product as AppEnhancer?

Yes. AppEnhancer is the current name for the product previously known as ApplicationXtender. Existing ApplicationXtender environments can generally be upgraded to a supported AppEnhancer version.

What does AppEnhancer end of life mean?

End of life means a particular version has moved beyond OpenText’s standard support period. The software may continue to operate, but support options become more limited and additional maintenance fees may apply.

What is Sustaining Maintenance for AppEnhancer?

Sustaining Maintenance begins after Current Maintenance ends. Organizations using a version in Sustaining Maintenance may be required to purchase extended support in addition to their regular Software Maintenance and Support agreement.

Does OpenText charge an Extended Support Fee for older AppEnhancer versions?

Yes. An Extended Support Fee is generally required when an AppEnhancer or ApplicationXtender version enters Sustaining Maintenance. Exact coverage and costs may vary by release and support agreement.

How long does OpenText support each AppEnhancer release?

Beginning with AppEnhancer 25.2, OpenText provides one year of Current Maintenance for X.2 innovation releases. X.4 releases continue to receive five years of Current Maintenance. OpenText support policy

Should I upgrade to an X.2 or X.4 AppEnhancer release?

X.2 releases are best for organizations that want the newest capabilities and plan to upgrade annually. X.4 releases are typically better for organizations that prefer a longer, five-year Current Maintenance period.

What happens if we continue using an unsupported version of ApplicationXtender?

An older version may continue running, but it can create support, compatibility, security and infrastructure risks. It may also require extended support fees and make a future upgrade more complex.

Can an older ApplicationXtender system be upgraded to the newest AppEnhancer version?

Usually, yes. Depending on the age of the environment, the project may require a staged upgrade, database conversion or infrastructure changes. RDS has upgraded environments dating back to the OTG and Legato versions that preceded ApplicationXtender.

How do I know whether my AppEnhancer version needs to be upgraded?

Start by confirming your installed version and comparing it with the lifecycle schedule on this page. You should begin planning an upgrade before the Current Maintenance end date, especially if your server, database or operating system is also approaching end of support.
